Rajeev Satav, a senior Congress official and MP, died this morning in a private hospital in Pune, just days after recovering from a coronavirus infection. “It’s a huge loss for us all,” Rahul Gandhi wrote on Twitter, referring to Mr Satav as “my friend” who embodied the Congress’ values.
“On May 9, 2021, Rajeev Satav’s RT-PCR swab was negative. After a long illness, he died on May 16 at 4:58 a.m. from secondary pneumonia and multi-organ failure “The Congress leader was admitted to Jehangir Hospital, according to a statement released by the hospital.
According to Maharashtra Health Minister Rajesh Tope, the 46-year-old Congress chief was in critical condition after being diagnosed with a new viral infection.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi took to Twitter to say:
Sonia Gandhi expressed her sorrow over the death of the party’s patriarch, describing him as “a valued comrade and a friend to all of us” in a condolence letter. She also said that it is a personal loss for her.
“Despite the fact that Rajeev Satav was just 46 years old, he rose from the bottom to hold several responsibilities in a short period of time due to his unfailing loyalty, honesty, and hard work,” she said.
Mr Gandhi, who was next to Mr Satav, tweeted, “I’m very saddened by the death of my friend Rajeev Satav.”
Mr Satav, a Maharashtra native, was in charge of the Congress’ affairs in Gujarat, where the party had fought hard in the recent assembly elections.
K C Venugopal, general secretary of the All India Congress Committee, said the Congress had lost a frontline fighter, a member of the Congress Working Committee, a member of Parliament, and a talented young leader. “Sh. Rajiv Satav, Congress’ frontline fighter, CWC Member, M.P., most promising young leader, and a good friend, passed away today. The irreversible loss has killed me. His indelible loyalty, connection, and overwhelming success would be sorely missed by the group. Please accept my heartfelt apologies “Mr. Venugopal sent out a tweet.
The defeat has made Congress chief spokesperson Randeep Surjewala speechless, he added. “I lost a friend today who took the first step into public life with me in the Youth Congress and marched with me all the way to today… Rajeev Satav will be remembered for his humility, constant smile, connection to the grassroots, commitment, and friendship. My mate, I bid you farewell. “Shine brightly everywhere you are,” he wrote on Twitter.

“I have not discussed the matter with the doctor yet,” Thorat said later to the media, “but Varsha Gaikwad is still here. She has discussed with the doctor. Satav was returning to normal. He is experiencing pain again. But he’ll get better soon.” Rajiv Satav had tested positive for COVID-19 on April 22 and was on ventilator support at a private hospital in Pune city after his health deteriorated.
