SI suspended for forcing dalit to drink urine | India News – Times of India


CHIKKAMAGALURU: The IGP (Western Vary) on Sunday suspended a police sub-inspector in Chikkamagaluru district of Karnataka – who had allegedly pressured a Dalit youth to drink urine at Gonibeedu police station two weeks in the past – and transferred him out of the district.
The case has been handed over to the CID, Chikkamagaluru SP Akshay Hakay Machhindra stated. The SP stated the investigation can be carried out by law enforcement officials from exterior the district. It has been assigned to the DSP of Puttur sub-division in neighbor Dakshina kannada district, he added.
On Saturday, police had filed an FIR towards SI Arjun Honakere for allegedly harassing KL Punith (22) and forcing him to drink urine within the lock-up. The SI has been booked below related sections of IPC and SC / ST Prevention of Atrocities Modification Act.
